Santa Cruz da Graciosa ,  April 08, 2013

Vasco Cordeiro ensures Government's commitment to reinforce competitiveness of Agriculture

The President of the Government assured on Monday the Government's commitment to reinforce the competitiveness of the agricultural sector through the public investment in rural roads as well as in the improvement of water and power supply to regional farms.

"These investments are important for the Government of the Azores and are also part of the strategy to strengthen our economy, because only then we will be able to overcome the difficult times we live in," stressed Vasco Cordeiro.

The President of the Government spoke at the opening of the water borehole in Fontes and the construction of a water reservoir in the Agrarian Planning Perimeter of Santa Cruz/Guadalupe and its connection to the water supply network, an investment that will benefit 140 farms on the island of Graciosa.

According to Vasco Cordeiro, this work is another investment to improve Graciosa's agricultural sector and regional agriculture as well. This investment will improve quality and boost productivity under the strategy to reinforce the competitiveness of the milk sector.

In addition to improving water supply systems, the "Government of the Azores is permanently concerned with agricultural roads and power supply to farms, which will improve the competitiveness of farms as well as the competitiveness of milk production," stated the President of the Government.

On the first day of the Government's statutory visit to Graciosa, Vasco Cordeiro also highlighted the Government's social concerns that have been demonstrated in measures such as the Regional Pension Supplement or the Family Allowance as well as the clear commitment to strengthen the competitiveness of regional economy, improve the employability conditions of the Azorean population and support companies.

"We are living moments that put to the test our capacity to believe and resist discouragement, but it is important to stress that everyone must give the best of themselves, starting by each Azorean, the Regional Government and all entities," stressed Vasco Cordeiro.

According to him, the Government of the Azores, within its powers and resources, takes up the responsibility of joining the efforts of all those who wish to help the Azores overcoming this difficult moment by focusing on social concerns and promoting employability.
