The President of the Government congratulated União Sportiva for winning the Women's Basketball Cup of Portugal, following the victory over Olivais team by 74-51 in the final that took place in Coimbra.
 
In the congratulatory message sent to the athletes, the coaching staff and the leaders of the União Sportiva, Vasco Cordeiro stressed that this achievement has "dignified, once again, Azorean sport and honoured the Azores."
 
"As the result of self-sacrificing and quality work, the União Sportiva has managed to bring the Azores to the top of this sport at national and even European level in a consistent path that is also marked by the important achievement of this award," said the President of the Azorean Government.
 
Vasco Cordeiro also considered that the winning of the Cup of Portugal "will provide an additional stimulus to the new paths that União Sportiva will certainly continue to follow."
 
União Sportiva is the first Azorean club to win this trophy, after becoming National Champion in Women's Basketball last season.
