The President of the Government of the Azores announced today the launch of the international public tender to grant the operation of the Commercial Port of Praia da Vitória. This measure intends to attract foreign investment to Terceira Island.
"We are taking very concrete steps to solve what remains to be solved regarding the effects of the U.S. Air Force's decision to resize its presence on Terceira Island," said Vasco Cordeiro after receiving the MPs of PS of the National Assembly elected by the Azores, Carlos César, Lara Martinho and João Castro.
Vasco Cordeiro pointed out that one of these steps - mentioned at the meeting of the Permanent Bilateral Commission held last Thursday in Washington - is the fact that the Regional Government is preparing to launch an international public tender to grant the exploration and operation of the Commercial Port of Praia da Vitória.
"This matter is in line in the relevance of external investment in this component. It will benefit those who will seize this opportunity to pursue their interests, while contributing to wealth generation and employment creation in the Azores, namely on Terceira Island," said the President of the Government.
Vasco Cordeiro also recalled that, under the Economic Revitalisation Plan for the Island of Terceira (PREIT) and the Joint Declaration signed on the occasion of the Prime Minister's visit to the Azores, there are steps that are being taken by the Government of the Azores, which have been implemented.
In the statements made at the end of the audience in Ponta Delgada, the President of the Government highlighted the opportunity of this meeting as it allowed a detailed analysis of numerous matters, but also an in-depth knowledge about the positions and premises of the Regional Government on various topics of interest to the Region.
"This is something that will make a positive difference in this legislative period with regard to other positions already taken," said Vasco Cordeiro.
