“I believe that this is going to be the most important investment since always carried out in terms of new opportunities for the inhabitants of Nordeste”.
The conviction is of the president of the Government of the Azores, expressed to the journalists, last night, in the session of presentation, to the inhabitants of the town of Nordeste, of the SCUT Project, especially in what it concerns to the course that will be linking Ribeira Grande and that town.
From the nearly current 160 curves there will only remain 13, which will make shorter the distance (of 52 for 36 kilometres) and quicker the travel, which will begin to be done in little more than twenty minutes, against the current seventy five.
The work will oblige to unusual engineering solutions in the Azores, with distinction for a viaduct with 370 meters of length, 165 of height and 185 of space.
For Carlos César, the new road will allow to integrate the remotest council of Ponta Delgada in the economical and social circuit of the island of São Miguel, constituting, therefore, a decisive investment for the inhabitants of Nordeste”, fitted in a project (roads without cost for the user - SCUT) of great dimension, since it provides advantages for all the councils of the island.
“It’s a huge investment, of around 350 million euros, which constitutes the essential of this road plan of S. Miguel, which we are undertaking”, he underlined, guaranteeing that the work wouldn’t be possible without this model of financing and that it is, in the whole case, an investment of high reproductive value in the economical plan, particularly for the councils that were more distant from Ponta Delgada and, consequently, from the port, the airport and the hospital.
The SCUT project foresees the construction of nearly 95 kilometres of roads, in the time of five years.
