The Regional Government of the Azores will sponsor the tribute that the sports newspaper “A Bola” is preparing for the footballer Pedro Pauleta, in Ponta Delgada.

The President himself said it, at the end of a meeting with that newspaper’s Director, Mr. Vítor Serpa, who visited Ponta Delgada in order to present the idea to Carlos César.

This tribute – that will have its high point in the offering of a “Special Silver Ball” to Pauleta, for being the best scorer ever of the national football team – “it is a good reason to rejoice insofar as Pauleta is a fine example of Azorean contemporaneity, as a personality in sports and as someone whose personal qualities have already been honoured with the bestowing of the highest official distinction of the Autonomous Region of the Azores”, said the President, Carlos César.

The President of the Government also added that this initiative of the newspaper “A Bola”, whose prestige and credibility is nationally and internationally recognised, is, for these very reasons, welcome and will be sponsored by the Azorean Government.

The date for the event is not yet scheduled but it is expected that Pedro Pauleta will receive his “Special Silver Ball” in the current month of January.
