Projects for the New Madalena Healthcare Centre and the new Ponta da Ilha School presented during the statutory visit to Pico
The Government of the Azores will begin next Monday, June 28, a three-day statutory visit to the island of Pico where, among other initiatives, the President of the Government will preside over the presentation of the projects for the new Madalena Healthcare Centre and will visit the site where the new Ponta da Ilha School will be built.
The new Madalena Health Centre will be a building with an area of approximately 6900 m2, which is nearly five times the current area. In addition to providing family healthcare, this infrastructure will also provide specialised healthcare, including dermatovenereology, obstetrics / gynaecology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology and paediatrics. Moreover, the new healthcare centre will also include the home support service and cabinets where the hypertension, diabetes, physical medicine and pregnancy monitoring programmes will be implemented. The project also estimates the construction of an obstetric area that will allow pregnant women to have safe deliver without having to travel to another island and the implementation of a surgery outpatient service in order to perform small surgeries, thus avoiding once more the travel of patients to other islands.
Carlos César will visit the site where the Ponta da Ilha School will be built through the signing of an ARAAL contract between the Government and Lajes do Pico the Town Hall. The new school, whose project will be presented at the occasion, will include facilities for elementary and middle school, kindergarten and a gymnasium. The works will start this year.
During this statutory visit to the mountain island, the President of the Government will preside over the opening of the Interpretation Centre of the Protected Landscape of the Pico Vineyard Culture. This infrastructure includes the Vineyard Technical Office, the Pico Environmental Services, the Nature Watchers, workers of “Ecotecas” (Environmental Awareness Raising Centres), Interpretation Centres and the Pico Island Natural Park. In addition to providing technical support, this Interpretation Centre also hosts an exhibition, an artistic facility designed by architect Mónica Goulart and a contemplation area with a magnificent view over the Pico Mountain. The electrification of the houses located in the area of Lajido de Santa Luzia will also be opened.
Carlos César will also preside over at the opening of the Material Plate Warehouse of the Pico Airport. This warehouse, which has an area of 1171.64 m2, will support the preservation and maintenance of all plate equipment, and it also includes an administrative area and an area for staff and storage. Furthermore, the President will also open the Wi-Fi network at the Pico Airport.
During this visit, the President of the Regional Government will visit the renewal works of the Whaling Industry Museum in S. Roque do Pico and preside over the opening of the Support Buildings of the Madalena Fisheries Sector.
In addition, Carlos César will receive at an audience to exchange compliments, the President of the Príncipe Assembly, Nestor Marimon Lopes Umbelina, who will be the guest of honour at a lunch offered by the President of the Government of the Azores, which will also be attended by the President of the Legislative Assembly the Azores, Francisco Coelho, the Member of the Príncipe Assembly, João Leonardo de Pina and the Aide of the Presidency of the Príncipe Assembly, Rui Mendonça.
