President of the Government received Bishop Emeritus of Angra do Heroísmo, António de Sousa Braga
The President of the Government, Vasco Cordeiro, received today the Bishop Emeritus of Angra do Heroísmo, António de Sousa Braga, to whom he conveyed the public recognition for the work that was out throughout the 20 years he led the Azorean Church.
"Bearing in mind the work that António de Sousa Braga has developed during these years, it is my duty, but also my belief, to convey you this word of thanks," said Vasco Cordeiro after the audience that took place in Ponta Delgada.
Speaking to journalists, the President of the Government stressed that this appreciation stems from the fact that the Government also regards the Church an institution that "fights, defends and promotes the interests and the well-being of the People, especially of those who are in a more vulnerable situation.
"Apart from the collaboration between the Church and the Government, we regard the Church as a partner of the Azores and the Azorean People," said Vasco Cordeiro, who offered the Bishop Emeritus of Angra do Heroísmo a Holy Christ of Miracles "registo" (representation).
"At a time when António de Sousa Braga is starting a new phase in his life, the Government of the Azores owes him the recognition for what he has done in favour of the Region over the years," particularly in these demanding and challenging times for the Azorean people, said the President of the Government.
