The Government of the Azores wishes to strengthen the relation with the state of Massachusetts. This desire was conveyed in a massage from the President of the Government of the Azores addressed at the Governor of that state, Deval Patrick, to be delivered by the Regional Secretariat for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, during a meeting that will be held in Boston next Thursday.
Vasco Cordeiro will meet the Governor of Massachusetts on the first of a visit undertaken by the Regional Secretary to the United States to participate in the Holy Spirit Festivities in New England. In addition to this meeting with Deval Patrick, the agenda also includes several meetings with political leaders, such as the mayors of Fall River, Will Flanagan, and New Bedford, Scot Lang, as well as the Portuguese consular representatives, amongst other entities.
In the message to be delivered by the Regional Secretary for the Economy, the President of the Government thanks the support that has been provided by Deval Patrick to Azorean emigrant community residing in the state of Massachusetts, reminding that this a “long and profound” connection.
The President of the Government, who is expressed his pride in the Azorean community residing in that state, praises the supported that has been provided “at a social, educational, cultural and economic level,” and considers that such aid “has been very important.”
Vasco Cordeiro is the guest of honour, on behalf of the Azores, of the Holy Spirit Festivities in New England that will take place in the city of Fall River between August 27 and 30.
The agenda of the Regional Secretary for the Economy includes the Blessing and Distributing of Offerings on Friday, the Ethnographic Parade and the “Bodo de Leite” at the Kennedy Park on Saturday, and the Solemn Mass and Procession on Sunday.
The Holy Spirit Festivities in New England will close on Monday with a dinner which will be attended by representatives of the communities as well as by North American civil and ecclesiastical authorities, amongst others.
