Santa Cruz da Graciosa ,  June 20, 2016

New information system for clinical tests reinforces access of Azorean citizens to Health, says Vasco Cordeiro

The President of the Government attended today the presentation of the new integrated information system, designated as MyClinicData, at Graciosa Health centre. This initiative allows any Azorean to have electronic access to the results of medical tests, which will no longer require visits to health facilities.

This project, which is fully operational on all islands, allows a "faster, practical and effective" sharing of information on test results as well as on patient clinical records between hospitals and health centres, stressed Vasco Cordeiro.

Speaking to journalists, under the statutory visit to Graciosa, the President of the Government stressed that MyClinicData, which represents an investment of half a million Euros, is part of a group of three projects designed to improve the access of the Azorean citizens to the Regional Health Service.

In addition to this information system on test results, telemedicine is another component that is at an advanced stage, followed by the imaging; the latter should be operational by this year, advanced Vasco Cordeiro.

"This system has been implemented because it is more advantageous for the Azoreans who need to use the Regional Health Service. The same applies to telemedicine and to the implementation of the imaging project," said the President of the Government.

Thus, the new system will no longer require patients to visit health centres, while allowing doctors to consult the latest test results, regardless of the health units where they were prescribed or carried out. Moreover, it also prevents the duplication of prescriptions for tests, which generate unnecessary additional costs.

As regards to the main international standards for computer security and protection of personal data, the implementation of MyClinicData does not require health centres to print results.

According to estimates, the MyCliniData system will allows savings of, at least, half a tonne of paper.
