The doctors who frequent the medical internship in the hospitals and health centres of the Azores can now apply for the scholarships created by regional legislation recently approved with the objective of stimulating the settlement of doctors of specialties that the Region still lacks.
Any intern placed in a unit of the Regional Health Service can apply for the new support, which benefit determines, however, the signature of a promise obliging working in the Region after the conclusion of the internship.
It competes to the Government the definition of the disadvantaged specialties for effects of concession of the scholarships, being their payment secured by the health unit where the intern is placed.
In the last placing for medical internship 27 vacancies were attributed to the Region, 10 in an initial phase (eight for hospitals, for the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital and two of Hospital and Familiar Medicine, for the health centres of Graciosa and Ribeira Grande) and 17 in a second phase (16, in the three hospitals, and one of General and Familiar Medicine, in the Health Centre of Horta).
In the perspective of the Government, the increase of vacancies for specific formation in the Region constitutes a way of recruitment and settlement of new health professionals.
