The President of the Government of the Azores assured today that Local Power is an "essential partner" in the development process that is being implemented in the Region. In this regard, Vasco Cordeiro conveyed his belief in the enhancement of this cooperation between the Government and Municipalities.

"This is a path and a goal we want to continue reinforcing. It should be visible on the daily issues in which Municipalities play an important role in their resolution or on the major issues concerning the development of our Region in which joint efforts and partnership are the best way to overcome them," said Vasco Cordeiro.

The President of the Government of the Azores spoke after receiving in audience the Administration Board of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities, which met today in Ponta Delgada.

According to Vasco Cordeiro, the spirit of partnership that has been built together with Municipalities and Villages of all islands over the years "speaks for itself," taking into account what has been already achieved in the Region.

"We live in a context that requires from all of us the best we can do so that we may overcome challenges successfully," stressed Vasco Cordeiro. The President of the Government also pointed other major challenges, such as the new financial programming period, which will be faced with the support of Municipalities as partners in the accomplishment of the proposed strategic goals.
