Government is closely monitoring process of the new COFACO plant on Pico, ensures Vasco Cordeiro

The President of the Government assured Monday that the Government is closely monitoring the construction process of the new plant by the private company COFACO on the island of Pico and that is not indifferent to the concerns raised in the labour component.

"The Government has closely followed this process that will provide better conditions and competitiveness to this industry on the island of Pico and, of course, it is not indifferent to the concerns that the island is experiencing" at the moment, stressed Vasco Cordeiro.

After the meeting of the Island Council, held at the end of the first day of the Government's statutory visit to Pico, the President of the Government also pointed out that the Government expects that, compared the intentions of this private investment, this "situation will be solved in a positive way."

Speaking to journalists, Vasco Cordeiro also announced that "everything is in a position to launch the public tender" for the works to recover the jetty of Madalena commercial port that was damaged by rough sea conditions in February this year, This intervention represents an investment over six million Euros.

With regard to Pico Airport, the President of the Government assured that, by the end of this year, the tender will be launched for the intervention on the track, known as grooving; the latter consists of grooves that facilitate the flow of water and increase the adherence of the aircraft to the runway.

This is the commitment to improve the operating conditions of Pico Airport that will be fulfilled, Vasco Cordeiro ensured, adding that no intervention or investment is planned for the extension of the airport runway.
