Government interested and available to strengthen partnership with the security forces, assures Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government conveyed the Government's interest and availability to reinforce the partnership with Security Forces so that PSP (Public Security Police) and GNR (National Republican Guard) may better serve the Azorean population.
"We are available and interested, within our powers, to strengthen this partnership so that the goal of better serving the Azorean population be achieved quickly and effectively," said Vasco Cordeiro, after receiving in audience the Minister of Internal Administration, Anabela Miranda Rodrigues.
At the end of the audience held in Ponta Delgada, the President of the Government stressed that the protocol signed with security forces has allowed the allocation of miscellaneous materials to PSP and GNR, namely vehicles and computer equipment.
To date, the Region, through the Regional Transport Fund, has awarded vehicles and computer equipment to PSP, an investment half a million Euros, and supported the recovery of facilities with an additional investment of 120 thousand Euros.
Soon, the Government will sign new agreements with Security Forces that will allow PSP to purchase twenty vehicles, representing a total investment of about 470 thousand Euros.
Under these agreements, the Government will allocate over 300 thousand Euros to support the recovery of police facilities, the acquisition of equipment for rapid intervention teams and traffic surveillance as well as the acquisition of surveillance and monitoring equipment for criminal investigation.
According to Vasco Cordeiro, this meeting also addressed matters pertaining to PSP facilities, namely the situation of Rabo de Peixe Police Station in the municipality of Ribeira Grande.
"The fact that PSP has maintained its presence and the special attention paid to the local population is very important to the Regional Government," the President of the Government said, mentioning the existence of other police facilities in the archipelago that need this special attention.
The issue of human resources was also under discussion at the audience. In this context, the President of the Government recalled that, give the specific characteristics of the Azorean archipelago, this matter "requires special attention."
"I am pleased to receive the news about the reinforcement of human resources. Even in the event that it will not be sufficient to meet all needs, I appreciate the attention and care," said Vasco Cordeiro."
The President of the Government also publicly acknowledged the work carried out by Security Forces in the archipelago, highlighting their contribution to making the Azores a safer region, as shown by the latest data on the subject.
