The amendment to the status of the Regional Health Service, adopted at the Azorean Parliament today,” is the first of a series of reforms that the Government will undertake in the health sector.”
The announcement was made at the Legislative Assembly by the President of the Government, who stated that these reforms will be carried out at an organisational and functional level, and even in “some fundamental goals” of the Regional Health Service.
Nevertheless, the President of the Government reminded as he had already said “in due course” that he never appreciated “the work method and the constant controversy caused by the health delegate [from São Miguel Island] on a recurring basis, blemishing the work of his colleagues.”
For Carlos César, the action of that official was “disturbing the unity and the effectiveness of the health system, particularly in the combat against this pandemic,” for that reason “this health delegate is no longer trustworthy.”
On that day the President of the Government also said that the delegate was not fired “because the legislation by which he and the other island or municipal delegates would automatically cease their functions was not ready.”
“This situation demonstrates that this proposal also has this benefit with regard to the aforementioned health delegate, but it does not have that purpose,” Carlos César assured, adding that content of the diploma should be discussed and not its “immediate usefulness.”
“Therefore, this is what should be seriously discussed, because I honestly say that if that reform was not being undertaken, the Government would have fired that official from our health care system,” concluded the President of the Government.
