The President of the Government of Azores delivered today the keys of 12 houses to 12 families in the Nossa Senhora da Piedade neighbourhood, located in the village of Ponta Garça in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo. It was a 1.3 million Euro investment made by the Government, which comprises three 4 bedroom houses and nine 3 bedroom houses to re-house large families that were living without minimal conditions.
For Carlos César, the delivery of these houses is “a stimulus to a new stage of life” for these families.
The President of the Government stated that his government has invested in housing support more than 12 million Euros only in the first half of 2009, “and this has been possible, since we have managed as carefully as possible the Regional Finance Law, as well as our public finances.”
Carlos César considered that his government has accomplished much in the housing sector, but there is still much to do, because "unfortunately there are still thousands of families who do not have their house,” adding that “we will not rest until the overwhelming majority of these families fulfil their desire. "
Therefore, the President of the Government stressed that "unlike others, I think that there is something to correct in our public action. This is what stimulates our ambition to accomplish more and better. The one who thinks that one cannot question the actions of a ruler is being presumptuous and arrogant and does not understand that, when our people question us, this is the moment when we learn. This is the everyday democratic lesson,” Carlos César concluded, “when we are questioned to correct or to accomplish what is lacking, we do more and better.”

President of the Government conveys solidarity to President of the Government of the Canary Islands for events in La Palma
The President of the Government of Azores, Carlos César, has already conveyed solidarity, on his and on the Azorean Government behalf, because of the fires on the island of La Palma that led to the evacuation of four thousand people from their houses and to the burning of 700 hectares of forest.
In a message addressed at the President of the Autonomous Region of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero Baute, the President of the Azorean Government also hopes that the situation is rapidly overcome and that it goes back to normal, restoring tranquillity to the people of La Palma.
Carlos César offers the support that the Canary Government deems necessary and that is within the reach of the Government of the Azores.
