European broadcasters to meet in the Azores to analyse international cooperation

The Executive Committee of the Bruges Group, which is composed by ten European public television stations providing international broadcasting service and two representatives of Eurovision, will meet in Ponta Delgada on March 26. This year's meeting will be supported by the Azorean Government.

Chaired by the former director of RTP/Açores and current director of RTP, SA, Lopes de Araújo, for six years, the Bruges Group is an internal group of Eurovision - European Broadcasting Union that is dedicated to the study and sharing of information in the context of international television distribution.

In this regard, this Brussels-based body has taken important positions in the sharing of information and development of distribution strategies in various countries by promoting mutual aid and the reach of European public television in several continents.

RTP was one of the founding members of this group, along with TV5, BBC World, TVE, RAI and RTBF.

The Bruges Group currently comprises 20 European public television stations, including RTP (Portugal), HRT (Croatia), RTS (Serbia), RTSH (Albania), RTR International (Russia), Duna TV (Hungary) and Euronews, France Télévisions TV5 Monde and France 24 (France).

RAI International (Italy), TVR (Romania), TVP (Poland), RNW-BVN (Netherlands), Deutsche Welle (Germany), BNT (Bulgaria), BBC World News (United Kingdom), RTVE (Spain), ERT World (Greece) and the Franco German TV network ARTE are the remaining members of the Bruges Group.

The Executive Committee of this group meets once a year. This body is also in charge of preparing the annual plenary session that will be held this year in October.
