Municipalities are responsible for the provision of water services in the Azores. The revenue derived from this activity rose by 1.6% in 2008 in relation to last year’s figure of 17.5 million euros.
Having reached a total of 9.9 million euros, the revenue that was provided to the municipalities by water consumers rose by 2.7% last year.
According to the Regional Statistics Service, the costs related to the provision of water by the municipalities increased by 1.6%, to 2.8 million euros. There was a decrease of 0.2% in the expenditure of the business sector. (5.2 million)
With regard to the total volume of water sales in the Azores for 2008, there was a decrease of 1.7% in relation to last year, with 12.8 million square meters of water sold.
