Nearly fifty children opened the Christmas Tree of the Presidency of the Government in Ponta Delgada during a gathering with the President of the Government and his family that took place on Monday afternoon.
The traditional opening of the Christmas Tree at the Sant'Ana Palace was attended by children, staff as well as by members of the Board of "Castelinho Encantado" Day Nursery and Kindergarten and the São José Social Welfare Centre.
During the gathering, which also involved the participation of other services of this institution, the children enacted the birth of Jesus, through a live nativity scene. This event was followed by the performance of a Christmas choir composed of 32 children, who sang several Christmas carols.
The afternoon ended with a group photo and the traditional exchange of gifts. The children attending the "Castelinho Encantado" Day Nursery and Kindergarten received Christmas gifts and, in turn, offered Vasco Cordeiro and his family a nativity scene built from recycled materials.
