Carlos César supports Michèle Sabban’s efforts to reinforce the role of regions in the European Union
The President of the Government of the Azores has just expressed his support for the efforts undertaken by the President of the Assembly of European regions, Michèle Sabban, to significantly reinforce the role of regions in the European Union.
Carlos César conveyed his support for the contents of a document drafted by Michèle Sabban – in which the signatory states that in view of the political and social development, the regions are nowadays the basis of a future European identity with an enhanced decision-making capacity comparing to the current capacity in the context of Community policies – and sent her a letter of support, expressing his availability to sign the text, as he was requested.
“Investing in the regions is an assurance of progress for Europe” is the title of the document drafted by Michèle Sabban, in which the author defends that, amongst other concepts to strengthen the role of regions, “combining an integrated growth approach with a territorial specificity provides the best results in terms of development, stable jobs, creativity and innovation. A decentralised action, which allows citizens a closer participation in the decision-making process, reinforces the foundations of European democracy.”
