The President of the Government of the Azores reiterated on Wednesday afternoon that “it is important to reduce the severe consequences of this crisis in the Region so that we may overcome it sooner than other regions,” which would be a great victory for the Government and the political parties represented at the Regional Assembly.

Carlos César was speaking at the Azorean Parliament at the moment when a proposal for a legislative decree on incentives and employability promotion in the Azores, submitted by the Socialist Party, was being discussed.

He also reminded that he had already called the attention a year ago for the difficulties that would affect the Azores, but he had conveyed his belief that the crisis - which reached the Azores later - would end earlier in the archipelago.

The President of the Government added that – it is fair to say that in a context of severe difficulties at an international level, nothing truly exceptional negative happened in the Azores - the truth is that the region has fought the crisis better than other regions and even some countries.

For Carlos Cesar, the Regional Government took all measures deemed appropriate necessary to combat the crisis and cannot accept as fair the criticism that it has not accepted the suggestions made by other parties. He simply explained that these proposals were not good, either because similar measures were already being developed, either because the enforcement of some measures does not fall within the Government’s jurisdiction.

On the other hand, he assured that the governmental departments follow the daily situation of the people and families with identified difficulties, ensuring that the Azorean families know the problems they face, for example, in the access to bank credit, but they also know they may count on the Government.

“As we have had a government that has been on the side of families, companies, ensuring everything possible and expecting that, in view of the resumption of our economic life, we will resume our growth and progress pace that we were experiencing before this international crisis that also reached the Azores,” stressed Carlos César.

The President of the Government expressed his belief that “it will happen, to the delight of everyone, but especially to the delight of those who believe that governing the Azores is to build and that helping the Azores is not to destroy them, as some opposition parties do. Some, I say. Not all.”
