Carlos César stresses emphasis given by José Socrates to the Azores is good for maritime economy
Carlos César considers important the convergence of opinions by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister regarding the main challenges that the national government has to face, such as the economic growth, the improvement of the competitiveness of the Portuguese economy as well as the support and overcoming of the difficulties felt many households in Portugal.
Speaking at the end of the swearing-in ceremony of the XVIII Government of the Republic in Lisbon – during which Cavaco Silva and José Sócrates, through their speeches, have converged on the analysis of the challenges that the new government has to face and have reiterated purposes of institutional collaboration – the President of the Government of the Azores added that these joint efforts will enable “the mobilization of public resources and the country’s entrepreneurial spirit so that we may overcome these challenges.
Nonetheless, the President of the Regional Government stated that this is a difficult task whether by the parliamentary minority on which the government is based, whether by the need to instill confidence and hope in the Portuguese people, especially in the most entrepreneurial sectors.
Carlos César stressed, on the other hand, that the emphasis given by the Prime Minister to the issues related to maritime economy and to the Atlantic vocation of the country was particularly pleasing for him.
This means that “there is a change in the strategic point of view regarding the role played by our country – in the context of the European Union and at a global level – favouring the Azores which is not only appropriate, but also pleasing as we are concerned,” stated Carlos César.
The President of the Government also said at the occasion that the new government has solidity and strength in technical and political terms, being able to carry out a good work, but that will only be possible if the opposition is at the same level of responsibility.
“It seems that no one will ever know for sure who will benefit from the fall of the Government. Therefore, I believe that everyone is assured that this government should last four years,” concluded Carlos César.
