Carlos César praises Pauleta Foundation and announces the Government’s support to the expansion project of its football school

At the end of an audience granted to Pedro Pauleta on Monday afternoon, the President of the Government promised to evaluate the expansion project for the current premises of the football school of the best top scorer of the national football team as well as to support it as much as possible.

“We highly appreciate the initiative that the Pauleta Foundation develops here on São Miguel with its school and its role in the development of a large number of children, not only by disseminating the sport, but also by promoting a healthy free time occupation of several hundreds of youngsters,” said Carlos César.

For the President of the Government, “that goal is integrated in our youth policies as well as in our policies to support children and, hence, the initiatives developed by this Foundation deserve the Government’s support.”

In this context, the Government will evaluate the expansion projects of the current facilities “with the purpose of supporting as much as possible,” and to coordinate with the Pauleta Foundation “a structure and the type of services that can be implemented in accordance with Pauleta’s wishes.”

Moreover, during the audiences, Pedro Pauleta conveyed to the President of the Government his intention to create, in the context of the foundation he presides, a shelter with capacity for a dozen orphans or children from dysfunctional families, providing them with an environment that allows a healthy and safe development.

The President of the Government, highlighting the noble attitude of Pedro Pauleta, said that the initiative would simultaneously benefit the football school, “allowing a complementary occupation and a wider social integration of children that may have some kind of problem, which makes them eligible for special support.”

Carlos César also revealed that other issues were under discussion during the meeting, particularly the ones related to the fact of Pauleta becoming “an ambassador of the Azores at multiple events,” such as the case of the Lisbon Tourism Market. The President of the Government also confirmed the Government’s commitment to support the “Tropféu Pauleta” (Pauleta Trophy) to be organised by the Ponta Delgada Football Association.
