Carlos César is the guest of honour of the Great Festivities of the Holy Spirit of New England
The president of the Government of the Azores is going to travel to the United States of America, more precisely to New England, where he will participate, as guest of honour, in the Great Festivities of the Holy Spirit.
Carlos César, accompanied by his wife, Luísa, will assist, next Saturday, the ethnographic procession integrated in the Festivities and will be present in the “bodo de leite” (dinner for paupers) that will happen in the Kennedy Park, place for where there converge, for twenty one years, hundreds of thousands of Azorean emigrants who arrive Fall River originating from several parts of the United States and of Canada.
On Sunday, the biggest day of the Festivities, the president of the Regional Government will assist the solemn mass and the coronation, in the Church of Santana, integrating, then, the procession of the coronation.
Already on Monday - and with the presence of seven hundred people -, Carlos César will be the guest of honour of the closure banquet of the Festivities of the Divine Holy Spirit, in a restaurant of Swansea, in which there will be equally present the bishop of Setubal, D. Gilberto Reis, and the mayor of Fall River, Robert (Bob) Correia, native from the Azores, elected for the post a few months ago.
Alongside the Festivities of the Holy Spirit, the president of the Regional Government will have, Saturday morning, a meeting of great political consequence with the governor of the state of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, to formalize a cooperation agreement between that North American state and the Azores.
This agreement (see related news) stipulates that the parts are going to develop the commercial exchanges, the cooperation between institutions connected with health, education and culture, as well as the mutual investment or creation of “joint ventures” in emergent sectors like the high technology, the environmental technology, the renewable energies, the conservation of energy, the recycling, the reduction of the emission of pollutant gases, the climatic monitoring and the tourist promotion.
On Saturday, a dinner will still be offered by Bob Correia to Carlos César, and, on Monday, the president of the Regional Government participates in the tribute that the Bristol County Sheriff, Thomas Hodgson, is going to promote to Carlos Carreiro, a recently deceased emigrant rooted in Fall River.
The return of Carlos César and respective group – from which the regional secretary of the Presidency, Vasco Cordeiro, the regional director for Communities, Alzira Silva, and the deputies Francisco Coelho and José Carlos San-Bento, of the Socialist Party, José Manuel Bolieiro, of the Social Democratic Party, and Artur Lima, of the Popular Party make part - is foreseen for the morning of next Wednesday.
