Carlos César congratulates politicians of Azorean descent for their re-election
The President of the Government of the Azores, Carlos César, sent personal congratulations on Wednesday to several politicians and institutional policy makers of Azorean descent, or who represent constituencies with a strong presence of Azorean communities, for their re-election at the federal and state levels in the context of the midterm elections held in the United States last Tuesday.
In letters addressed to Federal Congressmen Dennis Cardoza (Democrat - California), Devin Nunes (Republican - California) and Barney Frank (Democrat - Massachusetts), state senators for Massachusetts Marc Pacheco and Michael Rodrigues, state senators for Rhode Island Daniel da Ponte and Teresa Paiva-Weed; state representatives Tony Cabral (Democrat - Massachusetts) and Helio Melo (Democrat - Rhode Island) , Carlos Cesar highlighted the importance of their victories for “the consolidation of the interests of the Azorean communities in the United States," as well as “the experience and knowledge” that each re-elected political representative now holds on “the aspirations and difficulties of the Azoreans residing in the country.”
The President of the Government also wished that their new mandate “may serve not only to claim the role of this community throughout the U.S., but also to strengthen the economic and commercial relations with the Azores, creating new bridges of cooperation for the future.”
Carlos César also welcomed the re-election of Thomas Hodgson, Sheriff of the Bristol County, a police authority that administers several divisions of the states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and with whom the Azores have maintained a close institutional relationship, particularly with regard to the deportation processes and the associated social problems.
