Carlos César assumes representation of the Azores under the new term of Committee of the Regions
The President of the Regional Government will represent again the Azores at the Committee of the Regions, under the term for 2010-2015 which was formalised in Brussels last Tuesday.
Regarding this new mandate, the Azores will hold a seat in the Commission of Natural Resources (NAT) and in the Commission of Citizenship, Governance, Institutional and External Affairs (CIVEX).
Carlos César emphasised " the fact that the Region will participate in the NAT Commission, as it is not only a commission created for this term, but also a vital area that focuses on important issues for the Azores, which have been particularly active at an EU level, such as the CAP and rural development, fisheries policy and maritime policy or tourism.”
The Commission for Citizenship, Governance, Institutional and External Affairs (CIVEX) is a reformulation of the previous CONST Commission, where the Region had already participated in the previous term, being in charge of matters such as immigration, asylum and visas policy, decentralisation and implementation of the EU Treaty, and the mechanisms of decentralised cooperation for development.
The President of the Government of the Azores will also represent Portugal as vice-president of the Bureau of the Committee of the Regions in the second half of the term, thus holding again the position that he held from 2008 to 2010 on behalf of the Portuguese delegation.
