Carlos César and Ambassador of Japan in Lisbon discuss the possibility of Japanese investment in the Azores
The President of the Government of the Azores and the Ambassador of Japan in Lisbon exchanged views “on a diverse range of sectors that might interest external investors” on Friday afternoon.
Carlos César added that, during the audience to exchange compliments with Akira Miwa, he had the opportunity of explain the specific situation of the Azores in the context of the European Union “insofar as the Region has a lower tax burden on companies as well as a privileged position in the transatlantic context.”
Stressing the importance of the efforts to attract external investment, which should be in accordance with the aforementioned advantages, the President of the Government considered that “those that find an advantageous situation in these circumstances will come and those that are able to make the same investments in other places with the same benefits will not come.”
Carlos César also stated that the energy, the tourism and the transport sector were, among others, the first issues to be addressed at the audience. It was decided that the Agency for the Promotion of Investment in the Azores (APIA) will be available, in the contest of the Embassy and the business missions of both countries, to provide information on what the Region considers to be attractive and useful to motivate the Japanese investment.
