Carlos César affirms that the Technological Park of S. Miguel will mark the next legislature
It was with an unmistakable declaration of hope in the success of the Technological Park of the Azores that the president of the Regional Government ended his intervention in the session of presentation of the project, “an investment of high value” that is fitted in a set which ambition is it of that “the new generation of Azorean highly qualified youngsters, who are leaving from the universities, finds conditions to work in the Azores and to contribute to the Azores”.
As Carlos César pointed out, it will the corollary of a government commitment in the consolidation of a regional scientific and technological system, through the achievement of an Integrated Plan that allowed, among other aspects, the stable functioning of all the institutions of investigation and development, the reequipment of the institutions and the installation of lab and operational unities provided with high technologies in the respective areas of specialty.
In parallel, there was created a line of support directed for the modernization and the installation of networks of observation and monitoring in the areas of the sciences of the Earth, of space and of sea, very much in specific in the powers of the volcanology, of the seismology, of the meteorology, of the climatology and of the oceanography. Another line of support contemplated projects of investigation and technological development of regional interest, in those areas and in others like those of social sciences, the agrarian sciences and the health.
Recounting the intense activity that these measures caused, the president of the Government affirmed that “we have all worked so that in these powers the Azores are better, being of highlighting the effort that we will keep on employing in the attribution of scholarships for scientific investigation and development, post-graduation course and fixation of competences in our islands. At present, in the regional scientific and technological system, we have nearly 450 investigators and 80 technicians - and our goal is it of keep on making this number bigger, up to 2013, in at least 30%”.
It is precisely in this context - he added - that the Technological Park of S. Miguel is inserted, an infrastructure that will represent an investment of 30 million euros and that will mark the legislature that will begin on the 17th of November.
Telling that the technologies of information, communication and monitoring are areas in which the Region has positive factors of differentiation and own needs for its sustainable development, Carlos César advanced that in Terceira it is in advanced phase the laying of the Technological Park to be built in Terra Chã and dedicated to the Biotechnology and to the Biomedicine, and in Faial it is in study and planning the laying of a Pole of Excellence in Sciences and Technologies for the Exploration of the Oceans.
The Technological Park of S. Miguel, today presented, will have a total area of more than five thousand square meters, incorporating, in separate buildings, the Center of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Azores, the Center of Technologies of Monitoring and Alerts, the Center of Training and Technological Development and the Business Center of Technologies of Information and Communication.
