Azorean Hotels register an increase in the number of overnight stays and revenues per room
The number of overnight stays in Azorean Hotels increased 5.7 percent in the first two months of 2009 compared to the same period of 2008.
According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the Azores were the region of the country with the highest increase regarding the aforementioned indicator in January and February, followed by Alentejo, which registered an increase of 4.8 percent.
All other Portuguese regions registered a decrease in overnight stays.
In February, the Azores were also one of the two Portuguese Regions to register an increase of overnight stays (0.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year).
With regard to the revenues per room, the Azores were the only region of the Country that registered a positive growth in the same period.
With regard to the same month of 2008, the revenues per room in February registered an increase of 5.1 percent, which contradicts the National tendency observed in all other Portuguese regions.
In terms of the total income, the Azores registered the lowest drop of the country concerning this indicator (0.6 percent).
