The Regional Government of the Azores granted, for circa 900 thousand euros, the second phase of the public works project for the remodelling and adaptation of the Recolhimento de Santa Bárbara and for the extension of the Carlos Machado Museum.
This new phase of this public works project, granted to the firm Teixeira Duarte, Engineering and Construction, Ltd, should be completed in ten months.
The project of remodelling and adaptation of the Recolhimento de Santa Bárbara, with a total budget of 2,6 million euros, in addition to allowing the recuperation of a notable example of religious architecture of the seventeenth century on the island of São Miguel, which remained in use until August of 1985, will also create the conditions to expand the functions and activities of the Carlos Machado Museum, whose central office is separated from the Museum by one street.
