Angra do Heroísmo Museum

Angra do Heroísmo Museum with nearly 10 thousand visitors in eight months

A total of 10.224 people visited the Angra do Heroísmo Museum (MAH) in the first eight months of this year, it indicates data supplied by the institution.

Along with the study visits, which in its whole provided 4.362 entries, the national visitors, with 4.397 accesses were those who visited more the Museum of Angra between January and August.

Along the first eight months of the year, 1.188 foreigners chose to know the museum, situated in the centre of the World Heritage city, in Ladeira de São Francisco.

June was the month that registered the visitors' biggest affluence and January the smallest.

Among the initiatives promoted by the MAH in the period, there stands out the display of works of the Collection of Contemporary Art of the American-Portuguese Foundation for the Development, entitled “Corpo Intermitente”, in exhibition of February to April, and the exhibition “Ler em Liberdade” that provided the meeting with the writer José Martins do Vale, integrated in the celebrations of the 25th of April and of the World Day of the Book.

Another ephemerid, the International Museums Day and of the Night of the Museums, brought to the institution the teacher Galopim de Carvalho for an explanation session and opening of an exhibition on dinosaurs.

In another dependence of the MAH, in Forte do Negrito, it was open to the public, from July, the installation of sound and image “A Madrugada das Cagarras”, visited by a total of 542 people.

Since the 11th of January the museum has a webpage in the Internet (http://museu-angra.azores.gov.pt), and a digital "newsletter", which characterizes its nucleuses of exhibitions and initiatives, as well as the website of “Mthe useu Educativo”, through which the interested people can schedule study visits and have access to information that concerns actions specially addressed at the school public.

At present, the Educative Service of the MAH is in final phase of installation in the ancient Factory of Tobacco Âncora situated in the rears of the São Francisco Convent, place that will receive a vast set of playful and pedagogic activities with different addressees.

The investment intends to promote the interaction between public of different age groups, in its majority students, in a perspective of non formal training, through the creation and the cultivation of a pedagogic vegetable garden, of the dynamization of works’ ateliers and of the promotion of a workshop of traditional toys.
