Angra do Heroísmo Museum

Angra do Heroísmo Museum marks Christmas season

The Angra do Heroísmo Museum is developing, during the current Christmas season, a wide set of activities that particularly implicate the youngsters and children of several teaching establishments and kindergartens of Terceira Island.

On Wednesday, the Profij pupils of the Cattle Industry Training Course, of the Emiliano de Andrade High School, directed by the teacher José Eduardo Menezes, presented the piece "Coffee with Cream", which told the misfortunes of a farmer, to a group of almost half a hundred seniors of the parish of Fontinhas.

In this season, there have been working also plastic expression studios, in which there were created materials intended for the decoration of the Educative Service.

The pupils of Class 1 of the Cáritas Training Unity decorated the Christmas tree of the childlike space, where there is told the story of the first fir illuminated by the angels to guide till home a lost pilgrim.

The same story of Sophia de Mello Breyner, "The Rider of Denmark" (“O Cavaleiro da Dinamarca”), serves equally of motto to the preparation of a collective panel. Done in recycled materials, ten of the stars that guided the Rider adorn the exterior tree of the Educative Service.

In the pedagogic vegetable garden, Christmas is being celebrated planting onions, after having been heard the story "The Onion of the Mean Old Woman" ("A Cebola da Velha Avarenta"), another story of Sophia de Melo Breyner, which talks about the importance of generosity.

In parallel, the studios "The travel of Zoe" ("A viagem de Zoe") and "Establishing the Verse" ("Assentar o Verso") keep on happening, being able the educators, teachers or coordinators of ATL centres to do their inscription by telephone or through the e-mail [email protected].

In the first one, the figures of the pictures of the painter Vera Bettencourt are recreated in musgami (a kind of oiled silky paper), while in the second techniques of decoupage to recycle furnishings are used, taking as an inspiration poems of Natália Correia, whose drawings collection is exposed in the Sala do Capítulo.
