Regional Government launches tender to support scientific publications

The researchers of the Azores Scientific and Technological System as well as those working at Regional Science Centre may apply until May 26 to the support for the organisation of scientific meetings in the archipelago this year.

The tender launched today by the Regional Directorate for Science and Technology under PRO-SCIENTIA provides a global amount of 75 thousand Euros. It is designed to finance the organisation of scientific meetings and scientific culture in the Azores, comprising symposiums, seminars, conferences and other formal events directed to the scientific community, technical experts and the public in general.

The Regional Secretary for the Sea, Science and Technology stressed the "importance" of the archipelago hosting scientific events "for the integration of Azorean scientists in international networks."

For Fausto Brito e Abreu, the organisation of scientific events in the Azores is "an added value to the regional economy," because, in addition to boosting sectors linked to tourism, "allows us to establish international partnerships involving local companies and the research centres of the University of the Azores."

The Secretary for Science also stressed that the tender to support the organisation of events intends to "foster the contact between experts from different scientific institutions and regions, projecting the Azores in the context of international research."

Providing conditions for the establishment of new scientific partnerships, promoting the dissemination of research results and new scientific information, and encouraging the discussion and the sharing of knowledge are other goals of this measure.

Those who are interested may apply until May 26 on the Internet page of the Regional Government at the address http://www.azores.gov.pt/Gra/CTacores/menus/principal/concursos/.
