The Regional Director of Forestry Resources highlighted the important number of companies that joined the Priolo Brand. Until the moment, more than two dozens of companies have compromised with the conservation of natures and promotion of sustainable tourism.
"It is remarkable the signing of the commitment form by four new companies joining the Priolo Brand and the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (ECST). This foresees the development of actions and practices in favour of conservation of nature and sustainable tourism in this territory” stated Anabela Isidoro speaking on the sidelines of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in the Lands of Priolo Permanent Forum meeting that took place this Wednesday at night in Vila de Nordeste.
The Priolo Brand registered by the Azores Government was created within the LIFE Sustainable Laurel Forest Project and following the LIFE Priolo project, developed by the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) in partnership with several departments of the Regional Secretariat of Natural Resources.
This brand aims to be a quality seal for those companies establishing a partnership with the Natural Island Park of São Miguel in the municipalities of Nordeste and Povoação, promoting environmental, social and economic outcomes.
Joining the Priolo Brand and the ECST allows partners to use the image of this brand, distinguishing itself for the work developed to preserve nature, as well as promotes their networking.
The Regional Director registered also the development of more than fifty actions presented in the Progression Report of the action plan for the Sustainable Development of Tourism in the Lands of Priolo, relative to 2013, which largely exceeded the 22 originally proposed actions.
In this meeting, held in Nordeste, several presentations were given on pedestrian trails, the new LIFE+ Lands of Priolo project, the Nordeste 500 years commemorations and the Geopark passport project.
Also the English version of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism “Lands of Priolo” was presented in this meeting.
The European Charter for Sustainable Tourism is a tool designed, evaluated and certified by EUROPARC Federation to promote the development of a sustainable tourism in protected areas.
