The Council of Europe will utilize the project 'Furnas LandLab' (Furnas Landscape Laboratory - Project for the Ecological and Landscape Restoration of the Furnas Lake Watershed), implemented by the Government, as a “case study” as well as an example of best practices for similar projects throughout Europe.
This recognition derives from the distinguished award given to the project 'Furnas LandLab', which represented Portugal in their first participation in the Landscape Award ceremonies given by the Council of Europe, delivered in Wroclaw, Poland, during the 14th European Landscape Convention.
The Landscape Award of the Council of Europe seeks to distinguish the implementation of a policy or measures for the protection, management, and/or spatial planning of the landscape, which prove to be effective in terms of ecological, economic, social, cultural and landscape sustainability and illustrates a valuable representation of best practices.
A “toolbox” has been created to include future policies for the implementation of landscape management at the European level including the collection of desirable examples from previous recipients of the 18 countries included in the last edition of projects, in addition to projects that were bestowed this honor in the first two editions of the Landscape Award ceremonies.
