The fumaroles hold important microbiological life forms of high scientific interest, considering it details the bacteria resistant to high temperatures. The Furnas Microbial Observatory (OMIC) offers the visitor a demonstrative exhibit on biodiversity of microscopic life in the Azorean hot springs and performs various discovery activities on these organisms. This center is open to the public throughout the year.
